Update on cluster of Rotavirus cases in paediatric infant ward at Queen Elizabeth Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     A spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth Hospital made the following update today (June 17) following an earlier announcement on Rotavirus cases in the paediatric infant ward:

     Another female infant aged 20 days in the paediatric infant ward has presented with diarrhea symptoms.  Test results for the infant concerned were positive to Rotavirus.  She is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition.  

     Admission to the paediatric infant ward concerned has been suspended. Restricted visiting to and discharge from the ward has been imposed.  Infection control measures at the ward have been stepped up according to prevailing guidelines.  All patients in the ward are under close medical surveillance.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
