Wan Chai No. 4 alarm fire roundup

     A fire broke out at a construction site for a 31-storey hotel at No. 380 Jaffe Road, Wan Chai, this morning (June 16). A large quantity of wooden planks, building construction materials and equipment on the roof and top floor were damaged by fire. Metal scaffolding on the roof collapsed. The fire also damaged a large quantity of bamboo scaffolding and nylon nets at the external walls of the top six floors.

     The fire broke out at 3.21am. It was upgraded to a No. 3 alarm at 4.06am and a No. 4 alarm at 5.34am. The fire was surrounded at 8.25am and was largely put out at 9.07am.

     Firemen used nine jets and two breathing apparatus teams to fight the blaze.

     No casualty has been reported so far. Investigation is continuing.
