*********************************************************

The Home Affairs Department (HAD) is making every effort to provide assistance to people affected by the No 3 alarm fire that broke out in Ma Tau Wai Road today (June 15).

As at 2.30pm, 72 residents from 34 households had registered with the inter-departmental help desk set up by Kowloon City District Office, the Police and the Social Welfare Department.

Over $200,000 in relief funds and donations had been disbursed through HAD so far, including financial assistance of $2,000 to each of the registered households, as well as donations offered by donors and charity organisations. The HAD will continue to get in touch with registered residents who have yet to receive financial assistance and offer relief funds and donations according to their needs.

The HAD also opened the Sheng Kung Hui Holy Carpenter Church Community Centre at 3.45pm to provide daily necessities and temporary shelter for people in need. Twelve households with a total of 26 residents have sought relief in the shelter.

A spokesman for the HAD said, "We will continue to look after the needs of affected residents and provide assistance as appropriate."
