The Commissioner of Police, Mr Tsang Wai-hung, was deeply saddened by the death of Station Sergeant, Mr Lau Chi-kin, while on duty today (June 15) and extended condolences to Mr Lau's family.
Station Sergeant Lau was taking part in an operation in relation to a protest in Central this morning. In the course of the operation, he fell from height and sustained serious injury. He was rushed to Queen Mary Hospital for medical treatment and was certified dead at 2.43pm.
The Force Welfare Services Group is in touch with Mr Lau's family and will make every effort to provide assistance.
Mr Lau, aged 49, joined the Force in 1981. He was attached to the Central District crime unit. He is survived by his wife and a daughter.
