Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 282 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 27 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during an operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7 p.m. today (June 13) and a total of 147 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 176 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 106 for other traffic offences.

     Twelve pedestrians and 78 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

     Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 1,237 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to May this year.

     Of them, 45.7 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
