CPH patients were infected with Human Metapneumovirus

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding a psychogeriatric ward in which some patients had been confirmed with Human Metapneumovirus, the spokesperson of Castle Peak Hospital (CPH) made the following update today (June 11):

     Two more female patients (aged 66 and 79) in the ward had presented with respiratory symptoms since 10 June 2011.  Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and their test results were positive to Human Metapneumovirus. The patients have been transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment under isolation and are in stable condition.

     Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed.  Infection control measures have already been stepped up.  All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
