Cluster of Rotavirus cases in a paediatric infant ward at Queen Elizabeth Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) made the following announcement today (June 10):

     A total of four infants (one male and three female, aged 17 days to 2 months) at the paediatric infant ward of QEH had presented with diarrhoea symptoms since June 2. The test results of the infants concerned were positive for Rotavirus. They are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.

     Infection control measures at the ward concerned have already been stepped up. All exposed patients in the ward are under close medical surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up measures.
