Housing Authority sets rents for three new estates
**************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Housing Authority:

Rents for 3 599 flats in six non-standard blocks of the Housing Authority's (HA) three new public rental housing (PRH) estates to be completed in the second half of this year will be set at the current district best rent level of HA's completed PRH estates in urban districts.

The district best rent at $58.6 per square metre per month for PRH flats in urban districts will apply to the 780 flats at Hung Hom Estate (Phase 2), 1 486 flats at Un Chau Estate (Phase 5) and 1 333 flats at Tung Tau Phase 9.

"Under this rent fixing exercise, the rents of over 90% of the flats are below $2,000 per month," a spokesman for the HA said today (June 10), adding that PRH rents, inclusive of rates, management and maintenance costs, are heavily subsidised.

"PRH applicants who have been allocated new flats but cannot afford the rent may request refurbished flats with lower rent. They can also apply for the Rent Assistance Scheme when necessary," the spokesman added.
