Tsuen Wan District Council by-election nominations open tomorrow
********************************************************

Nominations for the by-election in the Fuk Loi Constituency of Tsuen Wan District Council will be accepted starting from tomorrow (June 11).

"The nomination period will run until June 24. Nominees are advised to submit their nominations as early as possible to allow time to correct any mistakes in the nomination forms before the deadline," a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) said today (June 10).

"A nominee must be a registered geographical constituency elector aged 21 or above who has ordinarily resided in Hong Kong for the three years immediately preceding his or her nomination," the spokesman said.

"A nomination form must be subscribed by 10 registered electors of the Fuk Loi Constituency. Each elector may subscribe only one nomination."

The completed nomination form and an election deposit of $3,000 must be submitted by the nominee in person to the Returning Officer for the by-election within the nomination period. Nominations are accepted from 9am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays, and from 9am to noon on Saturdays.

The Returning Officer for the by-election is the District Officer (Tsuen Wan). His office is located at 1/F, Tsuen Wan Multi-storey Carpark Building, 174-208 Castle Peak Road, Tsuen Wan, New Territories.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from the REO website (www.reo.gov.hk) or are available at the office of the Returning Officer. They can also be obtained from the REO at 10/F, Harbour Centre, 25 Harbour Road, Wan Chai, and at 10/F, Guardian House, 32 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai. Both offices will extend their service hours to include Saturday mornings during the nomination period.

If there is more than one validly nominated candidate in the by-election, a poll will be held on July 24 (Sunday). The returned candidate will fill the vacant office for an elected member of Tsuen Wan District Council.

Enquiries can be made to the election hotline on 2891 1001.
