The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:
The Judiciary today (June 7) announced the appointment of the Honourable Madam Justice Carlye Chu Fun-ling, Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court, as Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal of the High Court. The appointment will take effect from June 8, 2011.
The appointment is made by the Chief Executive on the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission.
The biographical note of the Honourable Madam Justice Carlye Chu Fun-ling is as follows:
The Honourable Madam Justice Chu was born in Hong Kong in 1960. She obtained LL.B., Postgraduate Certificate in Laws and Master of Social Sciences (Criminology) from the University of Hong Kong, and LL.M from the University of London between 1982 and 1994. She was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 1983. She was in private practice from 1985 until her appointment as Magistrate in 1991. She was appointed as District Judge in 1995, Deputy Registrar of the High Court in 1997, Registrar of the High Court in 1999 and Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court in 2000.
