Land Registry statistics for May

     The Land Registry today (June 2) released its statistics for May 2011.

Land registration
-----------------

* The number of sale and purchase agreements for all building units received for registration in May was 12,536 (up 20.7% compared with April but down 5.9% compared with May 2010).

* The 12-month moving average for May was 12,946 (0.5% below the 12-month moving average for April and 1.1% below that for May 2010).

* The total consideration of sale and purchase agreements in May was $63.1 billion (up 18.9% compared with April and up 19.8% compared with May 2010).

* Among the sale and purchase agreements, 9,681 were for residential units (up 26.8% compared with April but down 12.1% compared with May 2010).

* The total consideration for sale and purchase agreements in respect of residential units was $49.4 billion (up 26.8% compared with April and up 15.4% compared with May 2010).

     Sales of residential units refers to sale and purchase agreements with payment of stamp duty. These statistics do not include the sale of units under the Home Ownership Scheme, the Private Sector Participation Scheme and the Tenants Purchase Scheme except those after payment of a premium.

     Figures on sale and purchase agreements received for the past 12 months, the year-on-year rate of change and breakdown figures on residential sales have also been released.

     As deeds may not be lodged with the Land Registry until up to 30 days after the transaction, these statistics generally relate to land transactions in the previous month.

Land search
-----------

* The number of searches of land registers made by the public in May was 498,692 (up 12.2% compared with April and up 0.7% compared with May 2010).

     The statistics cover searches made at the counter, through the self-service terminals and the Integrated Registration Information System (IRIS) Online Services.
