Unlicensed cold store in Yuen Long raided

     The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) this morning (May 27) raided an unlicensed cold store that contained about six tonnes of chilled poultry with official health certificates at Ka Lung Road, Yuen Long.  

     About 10 tonnes of frozen poultry and 30 kilogrammes of frozen pork with expired use-by dates, and 90 kilogrammes of chilled poultry offal without official health certificates were also seized for disposal.  

     A 52-year-old man has been charged with operating an unlicensed cold store.

     Under the Food Business Regulation, the maximum penalty for operating an unlicensed cold store is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment.

     "We will continue to take stringent enforcement action against unlicensed food business to safeguard food safety and public health," an FEHD spokesman said.

     "People should report such illegal activities by calling the FEHD hotline on 2868 0000."
