Six Hong Kong movies were showcased at the 37th Seattle International Film Festival today (May 26, San Francisco time), the largest and most highly-attended event of its kind in the United States.

"Bruce Lee, My Brother", "Ex", "Fire of Conscience", "Revenge: A Love Story", "Temple Rider" and "The Stool Pigeon" were among the 441 films from 74 countries screened at the 25-day event, which runs from May 19 through June 12 with screenings at venues throughout Seattle, Renton, Everett and Kirkland.

Over a hundred guests, including local and visiting overseas filmmakers attended a reception hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, San Francisco, prior to the screening of "The Stool Pigeon" on May 25.

After welcoming the guests, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, San Francisco, Mr Jeff Leung, highlighted the fact that movie star Nicholas Tse had won Best Actor for his performance in "The Stool Pigeon" at the most recent 30th Hong Kong Film Awards.

He said that Hong Kong is driven by talented people and is uniquely positioned as the hub where "East meets West". Together with freedom of speech and expression guaranteed under the Basic Law, Hong Kong's film industry continues to flourish.

"Over the years, many Hong Kong actors, directors and producers have become household names internationally by producing highly popular movies. In the past 10 years, Hong Kong movies and film talent have won over 300 international awards."

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government is committed to facilitating and supporting the sustainable development of Hong Kong's film industry. The Film Services Office was established to promote Hong Kong films and support film productions, providing one-stop and free services to filmmakers who choose Hong Kong as a filming location.

"We welcome filmmakers to capitalise on the experience of the Hong Kong film industry or make use of the state-of-the-art film production services and facilities we can provide. Through Hong Kong movies, more people will appreciate and understand about the culture and dynamics of Asia's world city," he concluded.
