The Government announced today (May 25) the reappointment of the Chairman, Dr Marvin Cheung Kin-tung, and five members, as well as the appointment of six new members, of the Airport Authority for three years with effect from June 1, 2011.
The five members to be reappointed are Dr Raymond Ho Chung-tai, Mr Benjamin Hung Pi-cheng, the Secretary for Transport and Housing, the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, and the Director-General of Civil Aviation.
The six new members are Mr Edward Cheng Wai-sun, Mr Jeffrey Lam Kin-fung, Ms Miriam Lau Kin-yee, Mr Lee Shing-see, Ms Caroline Mak Sui-king and Mr Albert Wong Kwai-huen.
They are leaders from the business, industry, logistics, engineering, retail and legal sectors, bringing with them a wealth of expertise and experience including knowledge and networking in the Mainland as well as Hong Kong's major markets, and experience in managing major infrastructural projects.
"Given their background and experience, the new members will surely provide valuable input on different aspects of the Authority's work," a Government spokesman said.
"The Government is indebted to the five retiring members for their invaluable contribution to the work of the Authority during their tenure. They are Mr Vincent Fang Kang, Mr Edmund Leung Kwong-ho, Mr Andrew Liao Cheung-sing, Dr Lo Ka-shui and Mr Wilfred Wong Ying-wai. Their wise counsel has helped the Authority to rise to various challenges in recent years, in particular, the global financial crisis. With their support, Hong Kong International Airport set new annual records last year when its passenger volume and cargo tonnage exceeded 50 million and 4 million, respectively. They will retire from the Authority upon expiry of their term on May 31, 2011," the spokesman added.
Under the Airport Authority Ordinance, the chairman and members of the Authority are appointed by the Chief Executive.
