Hospital Authority's response to media enquiries on meeting with frontline doctor representatives

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     In response to media enquiries about the meeting between the senior management of Hospital Authority (HA) and a group of frontline doctors today (May 16), the HA spokesperson gave the following reply:

     HA Chief Executive Dr Leung Pak-yin met several frontline doctor representatives today upon the request of Legislative Council member Dr Leung Ka-lau.  Also present at the meeting was Director (Cluster Services) Dr Cheung Wai-lun and Deputising Head of Human Resources Dr Derrick Au.

     Further to the proposals put forward by HA to address the doctors manpower issue, views are exchanged during the meeting towards doctors work environment and prospects while HA has promised to set up the Taskforce on Medical Manpower Review to review the manpower issues and address the concern of frontline doctors in longer term.  The taskforce is expected to be formed in July 2011 with internal and external representatives of the profession and staff representatives.
 
     Meanwhile, the HA senior management also committed to continue the communication and dialogue with frontline doctors through different channels, and at the same time, solicit views of all HA doctors on workload and working condition issues direct.  In addition, HA is conducting an e-polling exercise to collect all HA doctors' views on special allowance for overtime work and career progression.  Subject to the findings of the e-polling, meetings with unions and doctor representatives will be conducted to take forward the proposals of HA in alleviating the manpower shortage and enhancing staff morale as soon as possible.
