Hospital Authority appoints new Hospital Chief Executive (with photo)

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The Hospital Authority (HA) today (May 11) announced the appointment of Dr Ching Wai-kuen as the Hospital Chief Executive (HCE) of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Fung Yiu King Hospital, MacLehose Medical Rehabilitation Centre and the Duchess of Kent Children's Hospital, with effect from June 15, 2011.

     Dr Ching is currently the Chief Manager (Medical Grade) of the HA Head Office responsible for policy and professional matters of the doctors' workforce.  He was instrumental in the settlement of doctors' litigation on work arrangements and the development of the new career structure for doctors in recent years.  He has also assisted the HA Chief Executive in handling the recent doctors' workload issue.

     Dr Ching began serving in public hospitals in 1992 and acquired his psychiatrist qualification.  He was a Senior Medical Officer (Psychiatry) at Castle Peak Hospital before he was seconded to the then Health and Welfare Bureau to work in its Health Care Reform Unit in 2000.  He returned to the HA Head Office in 2001 as Executive Manager (Professional Services).

     For exposure to hospital management duties, he was seconded to the HCE Office of North District Hospital for one year in 2009, during which he oversaw the filmless hospital project, patient relations office and media relations office.

     He is qualified as a Fellow of both the Hong Kong College of Psychiatrists and the Hong Kong College of Community Medicine in Administrative Medicine, in addition to his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators.
