To commemorate the centenary of the 1911 Revolution, the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum is now staging a new exhibition entitled "People Who Made History-A Philatelic Commemoration of Xinhai Revolutionaries" until August 10. The exhibition showcases about 100 pieces of philatelic souvenirs commemorating various revolutionaries' efforts in overthrowing the Qing dynasty and founding the Chinese republics, as well as saluting the sacrifices they made for their country and compatriots.
The exhibits on display include "Restoration of the Republic of China" commemorative stamps issued in 1912, "Portraits of Martyrs" definitive stamps featuring the portrait of Liao Zhongkai issued during the Republican period, "Commemorative Stamps for the Grand Funeral of Premier Sun" issued in 1929, the "Portrait of Qiu Jin" first day cover issued in 1967, "Portraits of Renowned Figures-Lu Haodong" first day cover and stamp folio issued in 1979, "Renowned Leaders of the 1911 Revolution-Huang Xing" commemorative stamps and first day cover issued in 1986 and postcards of the Mausoleum of the 72 Martyrs. Other philatelic souvenirs featuring the 1911 Revolution issued by postal operators at home and abroad are also included to commemorate this pivotal moment in China's history.
The Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum is at 7 Castle Road, Mid-Levels, Central, Hong Kong. It opens from 10am to 6pm from Monday to Wednesday, Friday to Saturday, and from 10am to 7pm on Sundays and public holidays. It is closed on Thursdays (except public holidays). The admission fee is $10 with a half-price concession for full-time students, people with disabilities and senior citizens aged 60 or above. Free admission is available on every Wednesday.
