Police arrested eighteen people for illegal soccer bookmaking and money laundering (with photos)

    Police have arrested ten men and eight women in an operation against soccer bookmaking between May 1 and 3.

    Officers from New Territories South Regional Crime and Special Duty Squads of Shatin, Tsuen Wan, and Kwai Tsing Districts mounted an operation codenamed "CROWBEAK" and raided 16 locations over the territories.

    Ten men and eight women, aged 22 to 61 were arrested following the seizure of betting records of $1.45 million, five computers and a small quantity of cash.

    Investigation into the bank account records of the arrested persons revealed that about $34 million of transactions over the past seven years in their accounts were suspected in relation to bookmaking activities.

    The eighteen persons, arrested for bookmaking and money laundering related offences, have been released on police bail pending further investigation.
