Special traffic and transport arrangements for public procession in Kowloon this Sunday
******************************************************

     The Transport Department (TD) today (April 28) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented this Sunday (May 1) to facilitate the holding of a public procession to be held in Kowloon.

     The special traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

     From about 11am to about 1pm, intermittent lanes closures may be implemented along the following road sections in Sham Shui Po and Yau Tsim Mong Districts:

(i) Wong Chuk Street between Yu Chau Street and Cheung Sha Wan Road;
(ii) Cheung Sha Wan Road northbound between Wong Chuk Street and Boundary Street;
(iii) Nathan Road southbound between Boundary Street and Public Square Street; and
(iv) Public Square Street between Nathan Road and Shanghai Street.

     A total of 35 franchised bus routes operating in the affected areas will be temporarily diverted. The concerned public transport operators would arrange publicity to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements. Moreover, some of the bus stops of the affected bus routes would be suspended until the crowd has dispersed and the traffic lanes are reopened.

     The TD anticipated that the traffic on Cheung Sha Wan Road, Nathan Road and Shanghai Street will be very busy and congested on that day. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police. People planning to go to the affected areas are advised to make use of public transport. Members of public should plan their journey ahead and spare extra travelling time.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. Motorists and the public are advised to be alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television stations.

     Details of the special traffic and transport arrangements are now available on the department's website (www.td.gov.hk). For further queries, please call 1823.
