Free admission tickets for the Opening Ceremony of the 3rd Hong Kong Games (HKG) will be available for public collection from Tuesday (April 26).

The Opening Ceremony will be held at Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground at 8pm on May 14.

The opening ceremony will feature special programmes, including performances by the People's Liberation Army of China, Hong Kong Garrison, and a variety show featuring Miss Joey Yung, Mr Ken Hung and The Voice.

Beijing 2008 Olympic Games gold medallist of the men's all-round individual gymnastics, Mr Yang Wei, and Beijing 2008 Olympic Games gold medallist of horizontal bar and floor exercises, Mr Zou Kai, will take part as special guests to light the Cauldron of the Games.

Free admission tickets will be available at the District Leisure Services Offices of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) in the 18 districts from April 26 (Tuesday). Each person may obtain only two tickets on a first-come, first-served basis. Details of the District Leisure Services Offices can refer to the attachment, and are available on the LCSD homepage (www.lcsd.gov.hk). For enquiries please call 2601 7671.

Tickets to the opening ceremony for community organisations, students of primary and secondary schools and their parents will also be arranged through the 18 District Councils and the LCSD.

Members of the public who get free admission tickets are advised to make good use of the tickets and be there to be part of this major sports event of Hong Kong. Those without entry tickets can watch the highlights of the ceremony broadcast on TVB-Jade channel between 10.30pm and 11.30pm on the same night.

The 3rd HKG, a biennial local sports extravaganza, will be held from May 14 to June 5.  Over 3 000 athletes selected from the 18 districts will compete for their respective districts in the Games, which includes eight sports: athletics, badminton, basketball, futsal, swimming, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.

The objectives of the HKG are to provide districts with more opportunities for sports participation, exchanges and co-operation, and to encourage members of the public to actively participate in sports, thereby further promoting the culture of Sport-for-All at the community level.

A series of public participation activities to solicit people's support and involvement are underway. These include voting for "My Favourite Sporty District" and guessing the "Overall Champion of the third HKG" competitions. Hong Kong people can take part in the voting and guessing activities before its closing date on May 14.

The 3rd HKG is organised by the Sports Commission and co-ordinated by the Community Sports Committee with the 18 District Councils, the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF & OC), relevant National Sports Associations and the LCSD as co-organisers. The Hong Kong Jockey Club is the "Principal Contributor" while the Yuen Yuen Institute is the "Major Sponsor".
