The remarkable achievements of the local information and communications technology (ICT) sector were recognised at the presentation ceremony of the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2011 tonight (April 15).
The Hong Kong Police Force and Electrical and Mechanical Services Department received the highest accolade - the Award of the Year - from the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, at the ceremony. The Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, presented the Grand Awards to the winners of 10 award categories.
Addressing the ceremony, Mr Tsang said: "Since 2006, the ICT Awards have become a springboard for our dedicated professionals to achieve success and gain exposure further afield. They have also helped to promote healthy competition and raise the bar for the industry here in Hong Kong.
"Once again, this year there was fierce competition for the Awards with over 740 entries. This demonstrates strong support among the industry and the community for these Awards," he said.
The Hong Kong ICT Awards were established in 2006 under a collaborative effort amongst the industry, the academia and the Government. Its aim is to build a large scale and internationally recognised brand of ICT awards in Hong Kong. The Awards are progressively expanding to span a comprehensive coverage of different aspects of ICT.
The Hong Kong ICT Awards 2011 comprises 10 categories. There is one Grand Award in each category and an Award of the Year is selected among the 10 Grand Award winners. The Grand Award winners and their entries are:

4. Best Digital Inclusion Grand Award:
YMCA of Hong Kong (Netbook Inclusion for Children Empowerment (NICE) Computer Bank in Partnership with Servant Leadership Application Module (SLAM))
5. Best Green ICT Grand Award:
CLP Power Hong Kong Ltd (Green Data Centre)
6. Best Innovation and Research Grand Award:
Hong Kong RFID Ltd (Interactive Floor Tiles System)
7. Best Lifestyle Grand Award:
Cherrypicks Ltd/MTR Corporation Ltd (MTR Mobile iPhone and iPad App)
8. Best Professional Development Grand Award:
Computer Centre, The University of Hong Kong (ITIL Foundation Training and Certification Programme for IT Services Colleagues)
9. Best Public Service Application Grand Award:
Hong Kong Police Force and Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, HKSAR Government (Central Command System of Marine Police)
10. Best Ubiquitous Networking Grand Award:
Cherrypicks Ltd (Hennessy Mix iPhone and Android Apps with Location-based Augmented Reality Vision)
