More civil celebrants of marriages appointed
********************************************

The Immigration Department today (April 15) announced the appointment of another batch of 71 civil celebrants of marriages, bringing their total number to 1,758.

The first batch of civil celebrants of marriages was appointed on April 21, 2006.

A department spokesman said that the Civil Celebrants of Marriages Scheme has been well received by the public, and that the lifting of restrictions on the time and place of marriage ceremonies has brought more choice, greater flexibility and greater convenience for people in making wedding arrangements.

By the end of March 2011, about 96,270 couples had given their marriage notices through civil celebrants of marriages, and about 96,218 couples had successfully completed their marriage this way. Given the popularity of the scheme, it is expected that more and more couples will choose to have their marriages officiated by civil celebrants.

A list of appointed civil celebrants of marriages is available on the Immigration Department website, (www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/ccms.htm).  The "Information Leaflet for the Marrying Parties" on the website provides details for couples interested in choosing a civil celebrant of marriages for their marriage.  People may also approach the Information and Liaison Section of the Immigration Department on the 2nd Floor of Immigration Tower, 7 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai (tel no. 2824 6111) or the various marriage registries, for this information.
