The Convenor of the Non-official Members of the Executive Council
(ExCo), Mr Leung Chun-ying, issued the following statement today (April 8) on the resignation of the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mrs Rita Lau:
"I, together with other Non-official Members, regret to hear that Mrs Rita Lau has resigned from her position due to health reasons. The
operation she underwent earlier was successful and she would need to receive follow-up treatment. We wish her a speedy recovery. Having joined the Government for more than 30 years, Mrs Lau is an experienced and brilliant official. She became an ExCo Official Member upon her appointment as the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development in 2008. She worked closely with other Members to assist the Chief Executive in policy-making and made great contributions in various areas, including trade, commerce, tourism, telecommunications and technology. We wish her a full recovery soon."
