Special traffic and transport arrangements for public processions on April 10

     The Transport Department (TD) today (April 8) issued a reminder that special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented in Causeway Bay, Wan Chai, Admiralty and Central from about 1pm this Sunday (April 10) to facilitate the holding of two public processions.

     The first procession will start from Southorn Playground at about 3pm and take a route along Hennessy Road westbound, Queensway westbound, Queen's Road Central westbound and Battery Path with its destination at the Central Government Offices.  The second procession will start from Victoria Park at about 3.30pm and take a route along Gloucester Road southbound, Sugar Street, Yee Wo Street westbound, Hennessy Road westbound, Queensway westbound, Queen's Road Central westbound and Battery Path with its destination at the Central Government Offices as well.

     The special traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

Road closure
------------
     The following road sections will be intermittently closed:

1. Sugar Street;
2. Great George Street;
3. Paterson Street;
4. Kingston Street;
5. Part of Gloucester Road southbound;
6. Cleveland Street;
7. Jardine's Bazaar;
8. Tang Lung Street;
9. Canal Road East between Russell Street and Hennessy Road;
10. Canal Road West between Sharp Street West and Hennessy Road;
11. Yee Wo Street westbound;
12. Hennessy Road westbound;
13. Part of Yun Ping Road;
14. Percival Street between Lockhart Road and Hennessy Road;
15. Part of Luard Road;
16. Part of Fenwick Street;
17. Queensway westbound;
18. Queen's Road Central between Queensway and Pedder Street;
19. Part of Ice House Street; and
20. Des Voeux Road Central westbound between Queensway and Pedder Street.
 

Public transport services
-------------------------
(a)  A total of 83 bus routes and 11 green minibus routes operating in the affected areas will be temporarily diverted.  All bus stops along the procession route will be suspended.  Public transport operators will arrange publicity to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements.

(b)  The public light bus stand at Sugar Street and the green minibus stand at Tang Lung Street will be temporarily suspended.

Closure of carparks
-------------------
     All carparks along Hennessy Road westbound, Queensway westbound and Queen's Road Central westbound east of Ice House Street may be closed at short notice if necessary.

     Members of the public who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport services as far as possible.  Motorists should avoid driving to the affected areas.  In case of traffic congestion, they are urged to exercise tolerance and patience, and take heed of directions of the Police in the affected areas.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures as and when necessary.  Motorists and the public should watch out for the latest traffic news broadcast via media.
