Man jailed for conspiracy to traffic in dangerous drug

     A 37-year-old man was sentenced to an imprisonment of eighteen years at the Court of First Instance for conspiracy to traffic in dangerous drug today (April 6).

     The Court heard that on January 10 last year, officers of Narcotics Bureau conducted an operation to raid a residential unit in Kwun Tong area. About 11 kilograms of ketamine worth about $1.3 million, some $0.15 million cash and two private cars were seized. Two days later, officers arrested a 37-year-old man in Tsim Sha Tsui area who was believed to be in connection with the case.

     The man was charged with one count of conspiracy to traffic in dangerous drugs and was sentenced to an imprisonment of eighteen years in the Court of First Instance today. The $0.15 million cash seized and the two private cars believed to be crime proceeds were confiscated by the Court.  

     Conspiracy to traffic in dangerous drug is a serious offence which will be subject to a maximum penalty of $5,000,000 and life imprisonment upon conviction. Police will sustain efforts to combat narcotics offences in order to interdict illegal drug trafficking activities.
