CHP investigating a food complaint
**********************************

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health is investigating a food complaint involving a 31-year-old man who reportedly felt unwell after consuming a bottled drink.

Initial investigation revealed that the patient developed pain and a hot sensation on lips and tongue on April 3 immediately upon drinking a bottled drink given by a friend. He was admitted to Kwong Wah Hospital on the same day and is now in stable condition.

Preliminary laboratory tests conducted by Government Laboratory on the sample submitted showed the presence of sulphuric acid.

The CHP has referred the incident to the Hong Kong Police Force and the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department for follow-up.
