Ching Ming Festival hillfire prevention activity in Yuen Long

     The Yuen Long District Fire Safety Committee under the Home Affairs Department organised an activity today (April 5) on the Ching Ming Festival to call on hikers and grave-sweepers to guard against hillfires.

     A volunteer team of around 120 members distributed 3,000 bottles of distilled water and towels printed with hillfire prevention slogans to members of the public at six spots in the district popular for hiking and grave-sweeping, reminding them to put out fires before leaving.

     The participating groups were Yuen Long District Fire Safety Committee, Fire Safety Ambassadors of the Fire Services Department, the Six Rural Committees in Yuen Long, Civil Aid Service, Hong Kong St John Ambulance Brigade, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Lo Kon Ting Memorial College, and Ju Ching Chu Secondary School (Yuen Long). They spilt into six teams to disseminate the messages in Shap Pat Heung, Kam Tin, Pat Heung, Ha Tsuen, Ping Shan and San Tin.

     Today's activity was co-organised by Yuen Long District Fire Safety Committee and Yuen Long District Office, and sponsored by Yuen Long District Council.
