Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra to reveal musical "Temptations"
***********************************************************

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra will perform a concert titled "Temptations" in May.

Under the baton of Jimmy Chiang, the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra will perform Dr Yip Wai-hong's "Temptations" (Piano Concerto on the theme of "Jesus Loves Me") and Mozart's "Symphony No. 39". Jimmy Chiang is currently Principal Conductor, Theatre Freiburg, Germany. Previously he won the first prize at the 4th International Competition of Young Conductors, "Lovro von Matacic", in Croatia in 2007.

Asked about the work "Temptations", Dr Yip said, "Temptations of various forms and guises visit us every day. Walking with Jesus Christ lifts us from our loneliness, for His love points us in the way in which we should go. For this reason, I have woven the well-known hymn 'Jesus Loves Me' throughout this piano concerto, 'Temptations'."

Also performing at the concert is pianist Yap Man-shan, who has won several concerto competitions in Hong Kong and the United States. She has performed with various orchestras including the Rochester Philharmonic and the Texas Fort Worth Chamber Orchestra. She was a guest artist at the Eastman Young Artists International Piano Competition in 2006 and has been invited to perform in Tokyo, New York City, Guangzhou, and Macau.

Founded by Dr Yip Wai-hong, the highly respected Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra seeks to promote music among the general public, especially the younger generation in Hong Kong. The orchestra has performed frequently at Hong Kong City Hall, regional town halls and civic centres over the past 30 years. Additionally, a number of internationally famous conductors and soloists have performed with the orchestra. Through a blend of popular music and concert talks, the orchestra has successfully introduced classical and Chinese orchestral music to the public, and at the same time raised awareness of indigenous culture.

Concerts "Temptations" by Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra will be staged at 8pm, May 7 (Saturday) at the Auditorium, Sha Tin Town Hall; and 3pm, May 8 (Sunday) at the Auditorium, Yuen Long Theatre.
