AFCD invites public to join "Nature in Touch" Hiking and Planting Day (with photos)
*********************************************************

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) invitesĄ@members of the public to participate in the "Nature in Touch" Hiking and Planting Day, to be held on three Sundays between April and May.

"The tree planting activities are jointly organised by the AFCD and Friends of the Country Parks to promote public involvement in countryside conservation work and to enhance their awareness of nature conservation and tree preservation," an AFCD spokesman said today (March 31).

The activities will be held from 9am to 2pm at different locations as follows:

April 10    Nei Lak Shan, Lantau North Country Park
April 17    Luk Chau Shan, Ma On Shan Country Park
May 1       Near Yeung Ka Tsuen, Tai Lam Country Park

All interested participants should enroll at the on-site registration points. The AFCD will provide them with seedlings and planting tools on a first-come, first-served basis. Details are available on the AFCD's website: www.hknature.net/natureintouch/b5_news.php .

As the walking distance from the registration point to the planting sites varies from half an hour to two hours including an uphill walk, participants are advised to select an appropriate planting site taking into account their physical ability and hiking experience.

All the seedlings for the tree planting activities were raised in the AFCD's tree nursery at Tai Tong, Yuen Long. Over 700,000 tree seedlings were planted in country parks last year by various organisations, the public and country park staff.
