Cluster of Norovirus cases in a paediatrics infant ward at Queen Elizabeth Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) made the following announcement today (March 29):

     A total of three babies (one female, two male and aged three to 15 months) of a paediatric infant ward of QEH had presented with diarrhea symptoms since March 25. The test results of the babies concerned were positive to Norovirus.  They are being treated under isolation and in stable condition.
                
     Infection control measures of the ward concerned have already been stepped up according to prevailing guidelines. All other babies in the ward are under close medical surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
