The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) this morning (March 29) raided an unlicensed cold store which contained about 1,170 kilogrammes (kg) of chilled poultry and chilled cooked chicken with official health certificates in Hung Kiu San Tsuen, Sheung Shui.

The FEHD also seized about 80 kg of chilled chicken and poultry products without valid health certificates or with overdue expiry date. All of them have been surrendered for disposal.

Two men, aged 39 and 42, were arrested in the operation and later released on bail pending investigations.

Under the Food Business Regulation, the maximum penalty for operating an unlicensed cold store is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment.

"We will continue to take stringent enforcement action against unlicensed food business to safeguard food safety and public health," an FEHD spokesman said.

"People should report such illegal activities through the 1823 Call Centre."
