Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine catch-up programme to end on March 31
************************************************************

The Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) Catch-Up Programme of the Department of Health (DH) will come to an end on March 31, 2011.

A spokesman for DH said that PCV has been included in the Childhood Immunisation Programme since September 1, 2009 and that all infants born on or after July 1, 2009 can receive pneumococcal vaccination in DH's Maternal and Child Health Centres (MCHCs) according to the department's vaccination schedule.

Also from September 1, 2009, DH launched a one-off, 18-month PCV catch-up programme for children born between September 1, 2007 and June 30, 2009 (both dates inclusive) who can receive catch-up pneumococcal vaccination at MCHCs.

Over 135 000 doses of PCVs have been administered to more than 79 000 children under the catch-up programme since its launch.

"The catch-up programme will end on March 31 as scheduled," the spokesman said.
