Two employers ordered to pay MPF contributions

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (March 25) obtained an order for payment of outstanding MPF contributions of $65,149.03 against an employer at the District Court.

     The employer, Po Lai Kam Transfer Mfg. (Hong Kong) Limited, was ordered to pay the MPFA the sum of $65,149.03, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to its 10 employees.

     Separately, the MPFA successfully pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal (Tribunal) for $25,258.9 on behalf of an employee, who was owed MPF contributions by his employer.

     At the Tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Chiu Shan Fung Mei Seafood Restaurant Limited, did not appear. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $25,258.9, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
 
     The amounts awarded by both the District Court and the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendant to pay costs of $930 and the Tribunal ordered the defendant to pay $211 as the costs of the claims.
