A man who assaulted two Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) officers was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment, suspended for one year, in Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (March 21).
The 39-year-old man refused to co-operate and assaulted a Hawker Control Officer and an Assistant Hawker Control Officer who had issued him a fixed penalty notice after seeing him spit in Hennessy Road, Wan Chai on November 14 last year.
The man was also fined a total of $3,000 by the court for spitting in a public place, failing to provide personal particulars and proof of identity for inspection, and obstructing public officers in the execution of duty.
"It is not right to use violence against public officers, and it has legal consequences," an FEHD spokesman said.
"People should co-operate with law enforcement officers in the execution of their duties," he added.
