The Legislative Council Public Accounts Committee began its first overseas duty visit to London of the United Kingdom

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The delegation of the Legislative Council Public Accounts Committee departed for London of the United Kingdom (UK) today (March 20) to begin its first six-day overseas duty visit.

     The purpose of the visit is for members to study and obtain first-hand information on the mechanism, operation and working practices of the Committee of Public Accounts of the House of Commons of the UK Parliament (the Commons PAC), as well as the public audit system in the UK in relation to the Commons PAC.  The delegation will also take this opportunity to obtain a better understanding of the budget procedures in the UK and the efforts made by the UK Government to enhance the corporate governance of statutory bodies and non-governmental organisations which receive government subvention.

     During its stay in London, the delegation will meet and exchange views with various Members and staff of the UK Parliament and representatives of related organisations, including members of the Commons PAC and the All Party Parliamentary China Group, as well as representatives of the Department for Communities and Local Government, the Audit Commission for Local Authorities in England and Wales, the Her Majesty's Treasury, and the Efficiency Reform Group of the Cabinet Office. The itinerary of the visit is at annex.

     The delegation is led by chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Dr Hon Philip Wong Yu-hong. Other members include deputy Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Hon Paul Chan Mo-po, Hon Ronny Tong Ka-wah, Hon Cyd Ho Sau-lan and Hon Starry Lee Wai-king. In response to the Public Accounts Committee's invitation, Director of Audit, Mr Benjamin Tang, accompanies the delegation to provide professional assistance and technical advice to facilitate the Committee's study.
