The Civil Aviation Department (CAD) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) signed a Working Arrangement on cooperation in Supplemental Type Certification (STC) activities on Thursday (March 17).
STC is a document signifying approval of a major modification to an aircraft, such as a major change to the cabin interior, issued by the civil aviation authority.
The Working Arrangement facilitates the issue of a STC by EASA for design activities conducted by design organisations under the oversight of CAD. This implies that EASA has recognised the standards and competence of CAD on the applicable certification activities. With the implementation of the Working Arrangement, the aviation industry may benefit from possible reduction of the economic burden imposed on them by duplicated technical inspections, evaluations and testings.
