In response to media enquiries on the public opinion polls conducted by institutions commissioned by the Central Policy Unit (CPU), a Government spokesman today (March 16) gave the following reply:
"The Central Policy Unit (CPU) regularly commissions academic institutions or research firms to conduct public opinion polls on various political, economic, social and life quality topics as well as issues of community concern. Poll results are for Government internal reference in gauging the community's views and sentiment. CPU independently designs the poll questionnaire which is then sent to the agency concerned to conduct the poll. We will not comment on individual polls."
