Observatory releases real-time data on ambient gamma radiation levels in Hong Kong

     Starting today (March 16), the Hong Kong Observatory is disseminating real-time hourly average data on the ambient gamma radiation levels recorded at 10 monitoring stations in Hong Kong. The data is available at the following webpage.

     www.weather.gov.hk/radiation/ermp/rmn/applet/map/rmn_hourly_e.htm .

     The Observatory operates a network of 10 stations to monitor ambient gamma radiation levels in Hong Kong round-the-clock.

     Ambient gamma radiation levels may vary due to natural causes, which include geological and meteorological conditions such as rainfall, pressure and wind.  In Hong Kong, normal radiation levels vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.
