Precautionary recall of proprietary Chinese medicine found by Macau to have excessive lead (with photo)

The Department of Health (DH) today (March 15) urged members of the public not to buy or use a proprietary Chinese medicine named Pink Point Sexual capsule (HKP-02146), as it was just found by the Macau authority to have excessive lead during its market surveillance.

The product is manufactured by a Hong Kong licensed Chinese medicines manufacturer, "CHEONG CHUN TONG FTY. HONG KONG", for use by males with sexual dysfunction.

The appeal was made after the Macau Health Bureau informed DH this afternoon that in a sample from the above product (batch number: 20080401), lead concentration exceeding their maximum permitted level was detected.

A spokesman for DH explained that in adults, chronic exposure to excessive dose of lead could cause anaemia, joint and muscle pain, and even brain and kidney damages.

DH inspected the manufacturer immediately and instructed the manufacturer to recall the said batch of products from the market as a precaution.  However, the manufacturer volunteered to recollect all products from consumers to avoid market confusion.  They have set up a hotline 2545 3873 to answer related enquiries.

Meanwhile, samples of other batches of the said product have also been collected for chemical analysis.

The spokesman urged members of the public who have bought the product to stop taking it immediately.  They are also advised to seek healthcare professionals' opinions if they feel unwell or in doubt.
