Following is a transcript of remarks by the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, at a media session at the Central Government Offices today (March 15):
Reporter: (how it's going to affect us in this crisis)
Financial Secretary: I think currently what we're seeing is the very uncertain situation, and the market would continue to be volatile for some time. But I have met with the regulators in Hong Kong and they have informed me that so far the market has been operating in an orderly manner. We'll be monitoring the situation closely, and should there be any need for us to do so, we will introduce measures to ensure that the market will continue to operate in a stable manner.
Reporter: What about the Bank of Japan's measures to introduce five trillion yen into the Japanese market, would it have any impact on HSI?
Financial Secretary: The situation is still fluid but we'll be monitoring the situation closely and see how that would affect the whole global market in general.
