Update on cluster of Human Swine Influenza cases in forensic rehabilitation ward at Castle Peak Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding the announcement yesterday on a forensic rehabilitation ward in which some patients were confirmed with Human Swine Influenza (HSI), a spokesperson for Castle Peak Hospital (CPH) made the following update today ( March 1):

     Five more male patients (aged 34 to 47) in the ward have presented with flu symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and test results of two patients were positive for HSI. The patients concerned have been transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment under isolation and are in stable condition. Test results for two other patients were negative for HSI, while the result of the remaining one is pending.  

     Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
