Regarding the announcement of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) carrier cases yesterday (February 28), a spokesperson for Caritas Medical Centre (CMC) made the following update today (March 1):
Two male patients (aged 70 and 82) staying in Medical & Geriatric Department in CMC were confirmed as carriers of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) today. They are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition. Test results for the other 19 patients are pending.
The new cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for further follow up.
