Voluntary Optimisation of Class Structure Scheme receives overwhelming response
**********************************************************

A spokesman for the Education Bureau (EDB) said today (February 28) that a total of 202 schools have submitted their applications to join the Voluntary Optimisation of Class Structure Scheme. The bureau earlier introduced the enhanced provisions for the scheme, requiring schools to submit applications by February 25 this year to join the scheme.

"We are pleased that the scheme has received enthusiastic support and overwhelming response from schools.  The scheme can not only relieve the impact of declining student population and stabilise the education ecology, but also help participating schools to create more learning and teaching space. Schools can thus make effective use of manpower to facilitate the implementation of the New Senior Secondary Academic Structure," the spokesman added.
