Fatal traffic accident in Tai Po

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Tai Po this afternoon (February 26) in which a 47-year-old man was killed and six persons injured.

     About 2.40pm, a goods vehicle (GV) driven by a 34-year-old man was travelling along Tolo Highway towards Sha Tin. When reaching near Science Park, the GV crashed onto a kerb on the roadside and side turned after hitting a private car driven by a 47-year-old man. After the impact the private car then hit onto another light goods vehicle (LGV) in front.

     A 47-year-old passenger on the GV was sustained serious head injuries. He was certified dead at the scene. Also, a 47-year-old male driver of the private car and two male and a female private car passengers, aged between 2 and 44, as well as the male driver and a male passenger on the GV, both aged 34, were injured. They were all sent to Prince of Wales Hospital for treatments in conscious state.

     The GV driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death. He is being detained pending further enquiries.

     Investigations will be conducted by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North.
