Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 600 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 51 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7pm today (February 22) and a total of 192 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 410 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 190 for other traffic offences.  

     Thirty-four pedestrians and 193 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

     Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 251 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island in January this year.

     Of them, 58.4 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
