The first case involved a 59-year-old man who developed numbness, hot sensation and swelling over tongue, gum and lips after having dinner in a restaurant in Mong Kok on February 17. The man had sought medical treatment from the Accident and Emergency Department of a hospital but did not require hospitalisation.

The second case involved a 36-year-old man who developed numbness, burning sensation and pain in mouth and throat after having dinner in a restaurant in Hung Hom on February 17. He had sought medical treatment from the Accident and Emergency Department of a hospital and also did not require hospitalisation.

Investigation continues. The two affected are currently in stable condition.

Members of the public are reminded to maintain good personal, food and environmental hygiene at all times to prevent food-borne diseases.

When handling food, wash and cook all food thoroughly. Make sure that vegetables are washed thoroughly. If possible, soak the vegetables in clean water for a period of time to ensure that any pesticide or chemicals on the vegetables is washed off.
