Update on cluster of Human Swine Influenza cases in a severe mentally handicapped ward of Siu Lam Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding the severe mentally handicapped ward in which some patients had been confirmed with Human Swine Influenza, the spokesperson for Siu Lam Hospital (SLH) announced the following update today (February 18):

     Four more female patients (aged 35 to 56) in the ward presented with fever symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and the test results were positive for Human Swine Influenza. They are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.

     Admission to the ward has been suspended and a restricted visiting policy has been imposed.  Infection control measures have been stepped up. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
