************************************************************

As part of its Asian expansion plan, Yamato Transport (HK) Ltd today (February 18) announced the official opening of its new office in Hong Kong on February 8. The new office heralds the expansion of Yamato's Ta-Q-Bin door-to-door, business-to-consumer express courier service in Hong Kong and Southern China.

Yamato Transport's aim is to transport customers' bulky items with little fuss and at a competitive price throughout the city. Its Hong Kong office will operate Ta-Q-Bin services including International Ta-Q-Bin (through international connections), Cool Ta-Q-Bin (frozen and chilled courier service) and Collect Ta-Q-Bin (payment collection courier service for online shopping and direct delivery). The company is also partnering with local convenience chain store Circle K and clothing service provider Clean Living to develop and provide related courier services with parcel dispatch in most of its branches.

Managing Director of Yamato Transport (HK) Ltd, Mr Junta Maejima, said, "There are several reasons why we invested in our operations in Hong Kong. It has a vibrant economy and it is easy to do business here because of its level playing field, freedom of trade and rule of law. In addition, Hong Kong is at the heart of Asia and with its geographical proximity to Southern China, it will serve as a strategic base for our further expansion into the region."

Mr Maejima is confident of the company's business prospects in Hong Kong. He said, "Our initial investment in this office is HK$170 million and we are employing 100 staff, including 70 drivers and 30 office staff. In about five years' time, once the Asian network is fully in place, we expect to employ around 1,000 people in Hong Kong."

Director-General of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong, Mr Simon Galpin, said, "We are delighted to have Yamato Transport (HK) Ltd establish its business in our city. The company's substantial amount of investment signifies a strong vote of confidence to Hong Kong and our business environment."

Mr Galpin added, "The trading and logistics industry is one of the four pillar industries of Hong Kong. Yamato Transport's presence in Hong Kong will certainly bring a positive impact to our local employment market and future economic development."
