Enhanced sentence for drug trafficker

     Two men, aged 19 and 15, were sentenced to 12 years and seven months imprisonment and six years and five months imprisonment respectively for trafficking in dangerous drugs at High Court today (February 16).

     In accordance with Section 56(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, the Judge has imposed 50% enhanced imprisonment to one of the three charges against the 19-year-old defendant who has involved a minor in trafficking dangerous drugs.

     The Court heard that in August 2010, officers of Narcotics Bureau, after in-depth investigation, mounted an operation and arrested those two men in Sha Tin. About 340 grams of cocaine with an market value of $500 000 were seized.

     The defendants were subsequently charged and sentences wee handed down today.

     Police remind the public that trafficking in dangerous drugs is a very serious crime. Police will continue to combat all drug-related offences.
