Three employers ordered to pay MPF contributions

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (February 16) successfully pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $19,000 for four employees who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearings today, the defendants, Kandy Power International Holdings Limited, Wong Kwan Tao trading as Queen Beauty Centre and Ramachandran Balakrishnan trading as New World Telecom, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $11,152.41, $5,418.49 and $3,200 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable. The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF account as soon as they are received by the MPFA.

     The Adjudicator further ordered the three defendants to pay $145, $139 and $80 respectively as the costs of the claims.
